A Brief Look into the story – Alex Cross , police detective, is celebrating his birthday when the call arrived . His niece ,Caroline , was brutally murdered . What was more shocking to Cross was that her body was chopped up into pieces . As Cross gets involved in this case he finds out that Caroline was not the only one who was murdered like this . He traces the murders to all over the country. During the course of his investigation, Cross is thwarted by various people in Washington, DC—including the Secret Service and the President of the United States -- who all want Cross to hand over his investigation to them. Cross refuses and is almost forced to give up his investigative efforts when his old FBI friend Ned Mahoney recommends Cross follow up on a lead provided by a country farmer.  As the investigation rolls on Cross finds a link to the murder to some very important and very protected people who does not care how many people they kill to protect their identity .
